Latisse

Thinning eyelashes, a condition known as hypotrichosis, are more than a cosmetic concern. Your eyelashes are an important barrier between your delicate eyes and the debris and detritus of the world around you. Luckily, thinning eyelashes don’t have to be the end of the story. Latisse is a new prescription treatment that is available to regrow your lashes.

LATISSE® solution is a prescription treatment used on patients having inadequate eyelashes (eyelash hypotrichosis). LATISSE® solution is used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker and darker. LATISSE is the first and only FDA-approved prescription treatment for inadequate or not enough lashes.

LATISSE® (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.03% is a prescription treatment for hypotrichosis (Eyelash hypotrichosis is another name for having inadequate or not enough eyelashes) used to grow eyelashes, making them longer, thicker, and darker. LATISSE will more than double lash fullness in just 16 weeks.

Dr. Tal Roudner can help you get started with Latisse so that you can have your eyelashes back in just 16 weeks. If you’re interested in finding about more about this new treatment, call our Miami office to schedule an appointment with Dr. Roudner.

Using Latisse

Latisse is a medication, and it must be applied correctly for it to work as intended. Latisse is a liquid that is applied with a small brush applicator. Unlike mascara and other products that are only intended to create the appearance of longer lashes, this medication is applied directly to the eyelid at the lash line and is not applied to the eyelashes themselves.

Apply nightly directly to the skin of the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes using the accompanying applicators. Blot any excess solution beyond the eyelid margin. Dispose of the applicator after one use. Repeat for the opposite eyelid margin using a new sterile applicator.

Only the upper eyelid is treated with Latisse. Latisse is not intended for the lower eyelid. Sterile applicators are included with your prescription. A fresh applicator should be used for every application to prevent any contamination since even the most common bacteria can cause infections in your eyes.

Continuing Latisse

Latisse is intended to be used as part of an ongoing treatment process. If you stop using Latisse, your eyelashes will gradually revert back to their previous length. It typically takes approximately 16 weeks to see the full effect that Latisse can provide. Clinical study results were dramatic with 78 percent of study participants seeing a highly significant change in the length and darkness of their eyelashes. On average, Latisse users can expect:

  • 25 percent increase in lash length
  • 106 percent increase in lash fullness
  • 18 percent increase in pigment

Getting the Best Results

To get the most out of Latisse, it helps to create a regular application routine to make sure that you don’t miss a dose. You can do this by choosing a set time for your Latisse application, such as immediately after brushing your teeth, and storing your bottle where it is easily visible as a reminder. You can also set an alarm on your mobile phone to remind you to apply the medication until it becomes habit.

If you do miss a dose, don’t panic. Simply apply the medication at the usual time the following night. Don’t try to double up the dose. Remember that it takes several weeks to see improvement. Have patience. Use your Latisse exactly as Dr. Roudner directs. Latisse is only intended to be used once daily at bedtime. Attempting to increase your dose will not cause your lashes to grow any faster.

Side Effects

Latisse does have some side effects, and Dr. Roudner will go over those with you fully at your consultation appointment. A small number of people experience some redness and itching when they begin using Latisse. This reaction typically fades with continued treatment. If you have any concerns or questions at any time while you are using Latisse, please call our Miami office.

Only Use Latisse Under Doctor Care

If you are using, or have used, prescription products for any eye pressure problems, only use LATISSE® under close doctor care. LATISSE® use may cause increased brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye, which is likely permanent. Eyelid skin darkening may occur, which may be reversible. The most common side effects after using LATISSE® solution are itchy eyes and/or eye redness. If discontinued, lashes will gradually return to their previous appearance.
