Mommy Makeover

Miami Mommy Makeover Specialist, Dr. Tal Roudner

Pregnancy changes a woman’s body. Following childbirth, many women are troubled by breasts that appear deflated or sagging, loose and stretched abdominal skin, lax abdominal muscles with a protruding abdomen, and fat deposits in areas such as the hips, abdomen, and thighs. Some women are uncomfortable with the new appearance of their bodies and choose to get a combination of procedures including breast lift (mastopexy), breast augmentation (augmentation mammaplasty), tummy tuck (abdominoplasty), liposuction (liposculpture), labiaplasty (vaginal surgery) and other body contouring procedures to fix problem areas in a multi-step procedure known as a Mommy Makeover.

Miami board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Tal Roudner has extensive skills and experience performing the procedures that are typically included in the Mommy Makeover. In fact, he co-wrote the chapters on breast augmentation and breast lifts for a textbook that is currently used to train new plastic surgeons.

Candidates For Mommy Makeover

The best candidates for a Mommy Makeover are women who do not plan to have any more children and would like to improve the “problem areas” that exercise, a healthy diet, and an active lifestyle are not able to address.

In addition to the physical considerations of candidacy for a Mommy Makeover, it’s especially important that women evaluate the emotional benefits of this cosmetic surgery. Many women may be initially hesitant to pursue a Mommy Makeover, held back by concerns about perceived vanity, selfishness, or other forms of “mommy guilt.” Dr. Roudner has seen firsthand the positive effects of a Mommy Makeover on his patients’ confidence and emotional well-being.

Mothers have the most difficult job in the world, and they make countless sacrifices for the good of their families. Dr. Tal and his team in Miami believe that sacrificing self-care is a common mistake mothers make which can have far-reaching repercussions. Feeling good about her appearance and taking the time to care for herself helps a mother share her best self with her family. What’s more, a mother who feels good about herself is more likely to extend self-confidence to her children.1

Mommy Makeover Procedures

Dr. Roudner can perform a tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty) to get rid of the extra skin that remains on the front of your abdomen after pregnancy. This leaves you with a lean, smooth exterior that matches your reduced body mass. A breast lift with or without a breast augmentation can also be performed during your Mommy Makeover. Dr. Roudner can help restore your breasts to their more youthful, pre-pregnancy shape. You may also want to consider liposuction for a more streamlined appearance.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) is done to remove excess skin from your lower abdomen. Dr. Roudner will also tighten your abdominal muscles.2 The most common tummy tuck techniques used during a Mommy Makeover procedure are the full tummy tuck which involves an incision around the navel and the lower abdomen (from hip to hip), and the modified and mini tummy tuck procedures, which have no incision around the navel and a substantially shorter abdominal incision.

Breast Lift

When the breast tissue loses its volume or elasticity, the breasts tend to sag those losing their firmness and shape. A breast lift (mastopexy) is used to reshape and lift the breasts. During breast lift surgery, as part of a Mommy Makeover procedure, Dr. Roudner can also address large areolas. He can reduce their size and then move the nipple to a more natural-looking position.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves the insertion of breast implants or the transfer of fat to increase the size and enhance the shape of a woman’s breasts. During a Mommy Makeover, breast augmentation can improve the appearance of the breasts and is often combined with a breast lift.

Breast Reduction

Breast enhancement doesn’t always mean increasing breast size. Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure that aims to reduce the size and volume of the breasts by removing excess tissue, fat, and skin. The remaining tissue is then reshaped and lifted to create a more proportionate and aesthetically pleasing breast size and shape.

Liposuction

Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves the removal of fat deposits from specific areas of the body, such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, or neck, to improve the body’s contour and shape. Liposuction is not a weight loss procedure, but rather a body contouring technique for patients who are at or near their ideal weight but have stubborn areas of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

Mommy makeover patients often choose to include non-surgical facial rejuvenation as part of their treatment plan in addition to plastic surgery procedures. This refers to cosmetic treatments and procedures that aim to improve the appearance of the face without surgery. These treatments can include injectables such as fillers that are used to restore volume and reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and Botox injections, commonly used to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles and creases, resulting in a smoother, more youthful appearance.

However, to make your recovery easier, it may be preferable to opt to have your breast surgery and your tummy tuck surgery performed separately to allow healing in between each procedure.

Your surgeries may be performed here at our surgical suite, conveniently located within our Miami office, or they may be performed at a local Miami hospital. Dr. Roudner will work with you to make this decision based on your own unique needs.

FAQs About Mommy Makeover

Will Mommy Makeover surgery help with stretch marks?

While a mommy makeover surgery can address physical changes in the body caused by pregnancy, such as sagging breasts, excess skin, and a protruding belly, it may not be able to eliminate stretch marks completely.
