What is a Brow Lift?

As you get older and your skin begins to lose elasticity, your brow may begin to droop or sag, and deep creases or wrinkles on the skin of the forehead. This can give you the appearance of a permanent scowl even when you are happy. A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, can reposition your brow and smooth out the skin of your forehead in order to give you back your happy expression and a more youthful appearance.

Dr. Roudner uses a variety of different brow lift techniques according to the patient’s needs. The procedure may be performed in conjunction with eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for comprehensive rejuvenation.

Types of Brow Lift Procedures

Endoscopic Brow Lift

This is a minimally invasive technique that involves small incisions made in the hairline. Dr. Roudner then uses a small camera to view the underlying tissues and muscles, which allows for precise manipulation of the brow position. This technique is less invasive than traditional brow lifts and can result in less scarring and faster recovery time.

Temporal Brow Lift

Also known as a lateral brow lift, this procedure involves lifting the outer part of the brow. Dr. Roudner makes incisions at the temples, and the forehead is lifted and secured in place using sutures. This technique is ideal for patients who have sagging brows at the outer corners of their eyes.

Direct Brow Lift

In this procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision directly above the eyebrow and removes excess skin. This technique is best suited for patients who have minimal sagging and a prominent brow bone.

Coronal Brow Lift

Also known as an open brow lift, this technique requires a longer incision made along the hairline, from ear to ear. The surgeon then lifts the skin and underlying tissues, repositions the eyebrows, and removes any excess skin. This approach is more invasive than the endoscopic technique but can produce more dramatic results for patients with significant sagging.

How is a Brow Lift Performed?

Preparing for Brow Lift Surgery

When you call our Miami clinic, you will be scheduled for your consultation with Dr. Roudner. At this consultation, Dr. Roudner will discuss the brow lift procedure with you, answer your questions, and gain an understanding of your goals and expectations for the procedure.

Dr. Roudner will also ask about your medical history and any medications you are taking. Please bring a full list of your medications and supplements with you to your appointment. When you are ready, your surgery will be scheduled. Your brow lift may be done here at the clinic or at one of the other fine hospitals in Miami. You will also discuss your anesthesia options, which include IV sedation and general anesthesia. Together, you and Dr. Roudner will choose the anesthesia that best meets your needs.

Your Brow Lift Surgery

Brow lift surgery is typically an outpatient procedure performed using general anesthesia but can also be performed under local anesthesia and sedation. The procedure can be done using traditional surgical techniques or minimally invasive techniques, such as an endoscope, which involves making small incisions in the scalp and using a tiny camera to guide the procedure. Once the skin is redraped and pulled smooth, excess skin will be trimmed away, and the incisions will be closed with surgical adhesive or sutures. The placement of your incisions will depend on which type of brow lift is right for you. Dr. Roudner will review your treatment plan with you prior to your surgery. The incisions are typically small and along your hairline and carefully placed by Dr. Roudner to minimize the chance of any visible scars.

Recovery After Brow Lift Surgery

Bruising and swelling are to be expected for several days following your brow lift. In time, these will fade, and your results will become more evident. Follow Dr. Roudner’s instructions for self-care following your brow lift and take your medications as directed to help reduce your swelling and discomfort.

Dr. Roudner will advise you as to when it’s appropriate for you to return to regular activity following your brow lift. Keep your follow-up appointments and don’t try to rush your healing.
