Struggling with a “double chin” (known medically as submental fat or submental fullness) can detract from your self-confidence, making you appear older or heavier than you actually are. Until recently, the only options to reduce submental fat were liposuction and surgery. Fortunately, Dr. Tal Roudner is now able to offer Kybella to his patients from Miami and South Florida. Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to eliminate fat cells under the chin, and unwanted fat in the neck area, improving your profile without the need for more invasive treatments.

What is Kybella?
Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment specifically formulated to target and diminish the stubborn fat beneath the chin and in the neck area, known as submental fat, which contributes to the appearance of a double chin. This groundbreaking solution features as its active ingredient a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
How Kybella Works
When injected into the fat beneath the chin, the deoxycholic acid in Kybella destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness. Over time, these cells are processed and eliminated by the body’s natural metabolic processes, leading to a more defined chin and jawline. Unlike traditional methods such as liposuction or surgery, Kybella offers a non-surgical alternative with minimal downtime, making it a preferred choice for many patients in Miami and South Florida.
Kybella is particularly effective for those who have found that weight loss efforts do not significantly impact the submental area. Its ability to specifically target and eliminate fat cells in this region provides a solution where topical creams and serums fall short.
Benefits of Kybella
Kybella is an attractive option for anyone looking to reduce under-chin fat without dealing with the costs and downtime associated with surgical procedures like liposuction. Benefits of Kybella include:
- Non-surgical treatment
- Reduced submental fullness (“double chin”)
- More defined jawline and chin contours
- No downtime
- Long-lasting results
- Improved self-esteem
- Increased satisfaction with facial Appearance1
Who is a Candidate for Kybella?
The best way to determine whether you are a good candidate for Kybella is to attend a consultation with Dr. Tal in Miami. In general, good candidates for Kybella:
- Are over the age of 18
- Are in good general Health
- Do not have scar tissue in the area of the chin
- Are not pregnant
Preparing for Kybella
The key to feeling well-prepared for your Kybella treatment is your consultation at our office. You will discuss your aesthetic goal, then your practitioner will conduct a brief examination of the area under your chin and evaluate your overall health. Once you understand how Kybella works, you will decide together if this is the right treatment for you. When your Kybella treatment is scheduled, you may be asked to refrain from drinking alcohol and stop taking certain medications on the day before your session.
Kybella Treatment
At Dr. Tal Roudner’s practice, patients undergoing Kybella treatment receive a personalized approach to ensure that their cosmetic goals are met with expert care. Before treatment, the area under the chin is cleansed and a topical anesthetic is applied. Each treatment session is tailored to the individual’s needs, with a series of injections designed to gradually reduce excess fat under the chin, ensuring natural-looking results that enhance the patient’s facial contours.
Recovery After Kybella
After your Kybella injections, you might notice some temporary swelling, tenderness, or redness in the treated area. This can typically be resolved by using an ice pack. Our patients don’t require any downtime after Kybella–most return to their routine activities immediately after treatment. You will be advised to refrain from strenuous activities like exercise for a few days.
Kybella Results
Kybella works by gradually decreasing fat cells in the submental area. While you might see immediate changes to your double chin, it’s more likely that you’ll see the results of your treatment after a number of sessions.
A review of more than 20 clinical trials evaluating Kybella found that 79% of patients were satisfied with the appearance of their face and chin after treatment.2
Frequently Asked Questions About Kybella
What are the side effects of Kybella?
In clinical trials, the most common side effects were at the area of the injection site. The most common side effects reported were swelling, bruising, nodules, pain and numbness in the treatment area.3 Very rare side effects of Kybella include nerve injuries, difficulty swallowing, and cell necrosis around injection sites.
Kybella is FDA-approved, and is considered to be safe and effective when administered by a highly skilled health care professional who understands the anatomy of the face and neck, as well as how to safely administer the injections. All Kybella injectors at our Miami office are selected and overseen by board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Tal Roudner.
How many treatments will I need?
Kybella is administered in a series of up to six treatments, spaced one month apart. Each patient’s anatomy, submental fat deposits, and goals are unique, and the number of Kybella injections varies. We’ll give you a detailed Kybella treatment plan following your consultation.
Are Kybella results permanent?
Kybella injections destroy fat cells under the chin, so treatment is permanent. However, Kybella can’t prevent the development of new fat cells in the treatment area. The best way to preserve your results is to avoid weight gain with a healthy diet and exercise routine.
How much does Kybella cost?
Kybella treatment plans are customized to each patient’s goals, so the number of treatment sessions, the extent of the treatment area, and the amount of Kybella needed vary. During your Kybella consultation, we’ll give you a detailed estimate for the cost of your Kybella treatment plan.
What are other treatments to reduce submental fat?
During your consultation, your provider will help you learn about alternative treatments to eliminate a double chin and reveal a more sculpted jawline. For some patients who aren’t candidates for Kybella, liposuction is a great option.
Can I combine Kybella with other treatments?
Yes. For a more thorough neck rejuvenation, you might consider a facelift or a neck lift to address excess fat and skin below your submental area. You may also be interested in non-surgical options like BOTOX®, dermal fillers, or lip augmentation. Be thorough when discussing your aesthetic goals during your consultation, and your practitioner will help you formulate a customized treatment plan.
