Prepare For Your Recovery Before Your Breast Augmentation Procedure

Once your Breast Augmentation procedure is scheduled, you should begin preparing for your recovery. Early preparation can make your recovery time from a breast augmentation procedure much more enjoyable. It may also lessen the amount of post-op pain you experience, as many of the items you need are already within your reach.

If you are interested in learning more about the Breast Augmentation procedures we have available, please contact Dr. Tal Roudner at 305-767-7719.

Here is How to Prepare for Your Breast Augmentation Recovery

1. Ask for Help

Because you may experience dizziness or feel faint, you will not be able to stand or walk without assistance. Ask a trusted adult friend or family member to stay with you for at least the first 24 hours following your breast augmentation procedure. You can also loo into hiring an experienced nurse to assist you in the recovery. Remember that this individual will help you in various ways, some of which may be very personal.

2. Straws that Bend

Purchase yourself a box of straws that can bend. Using these straws can make drinking fluids easier after your breast augmentation procedure.

3. Create a Post-Op Recovery Station

Place everything you think you may need to use frequently on a table next to your bed. Some items you should consider including at your post-op recovery station include:

  • Bottled water
  • Straws that can bend
  • Snacks
  • Baby wipes –use these to freshen up before you are released to shower or bathe
  • Lip balm
  • Tissue
  • Cell phone/Home phone
  • Cell phone charger – if applicable
  • Television remote control – make sure you change the batteries

Sometimes anesthesia and medications cause nausea, so a small trash can should also be within reach, just in case. You should also bring this with you on the day of your breast augmentation procedure, as you may become nauseous on the ride home.

4. After Your Breast Augmentation Procedure, Serenity is Essential

Studies indicate that individuals heal better when they recover in a serene environment. For example, a study conducted by Roger Ulrich, PhD, who was the professor of Health Facilities Design at Texas’ A&M University from 1988 to 2011, finds that surgical patients who had access to a serene healing garden experienced fewer minor post-op complications, shorter hospital stays and needed less pain medication. For these reasons, stressful situations must be avoided during your recovery period after your breast augmentation.

5. Create a Menu of and Purchase Easy to Cook Foods

Chances are that you will not feel up to spending time in the kitchen directly following your breast augmentation. If you enjoy cooking, make a few of your favorite foods ahead of time and then freeze them in single portions. You should also purchase foods that are easy to prepare.

These foods may include:

  • Lean lunchmeat
  • Wheat bread
  • Wheat Crackers
  • Flavored gelatin
  • Healthy snacks

6. Find Clothes that are Easy to Take On and Off

Take a look in your closet and find the clothes that you can easily put on and remove following your breast augmentation procedure. Remember, you need clothes that do not require you to lift your hands above your head. This means no nightgowns or t-shirts. Every shirt/blouse you choose must button or zip up in the front; additionally, these items must be comfortable to sleep in.

7. Avoid Constipation During Your Breast Augmentation Recovery

The use of pain medications and your lack of movement following your breast augmentation procedure can easily lead to constipation. You can combat this by consuming foods that are known to help alleviate or prevent constipation.

These foods include:

  • Water
  • White grape juice
  • Canned peaches
  • Prune juice

Avoid eating low-fiber, binding foods like white bread, rice, bananas, toast and applesauce.

On the Day of Your Breast Augmentation Surgery

1. On the day of your breast augmentation procedure, remember to bring a driver with you.

2. You need to wear comfortable, easy to remove clothing that does not require you to reach above your head.

3. Follow any other instructions you are given for the day of your breast augmentation procedure.

4. A recovery pack that contains important items, these items may include:

  • A water bottle
  • Dry snacks
  • Your driver’s license or ID
  • A credit card
  • Cash

Preparing now means that your breast augmentation recovery time will be as comfortable as possible. This preparation will decrease your anxiety and add to the serenity in your home. This, as studies show, only facilitates the recovery process. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the office at 305-767-7719. We are happy to help.
